Chicken Lettuce Wraps

I don’t think I’ve ever gone to a PF Chang’s in America before. It’s a restaurant you always see when driving in LA, but not a place you would seek out. It was so surprising to me in Korea when I found out that PF Chang’s is a gourmet, fancy restaurant there. When I met up with professors or my parents’ friends from the past, they would want to take me to a nice restaurant. And their choice for a nice dining experience was PF Chang’s. To be honest, it did taste really good. I don’t know about the American PF Chang’s, but the Korean ones are clean and modern inside, and the food is pricey but good to share.

The Korean PF Chang’s is where I had the famous chicken lettuce wraps. It is the most popular item there, and Koreans go there to eat that specifically. But seeing it’s price and amount, I knew I could do better. Why not make it at home with more vegetables and less msg? Plus you could get more bang for your buck. So this is my chicken lettuce wrap recipe that is simple to make and perfect for guests. Let’s get to it!

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 pound ground chicken
    • 4 ounces baby bella mushrooms, diced
    • 1/2 onion, diced
    • 1 green bell pepper, seeded and diced
    • 1/2 carrot, diced
    • 1 Tablespoon minced garlic
    • 1/2 Tablespoon minced ginger
    • ground black pepper
    • 1 Tablespoon crunchy peanut butter
    • 2 Tablespoons hoisin sauce
    • 1 Tablespoon oyster sauce
    • 2 Tablespoons soy sauce
    • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
    • 2 teaspoons vinegar
    • 2 heads of butter lettuce

  • Recipe:
    • dice all the vegetables and get them ready
    • heat a pan on high heat and put in the ground chicken
    • break up the ground chicken as it cooks
    • remove any excess moisture with a paper towel if needed
    • when the chicken is all broken up and almost done cooking, add all the vegetables
    • stir-fry the vegetables and chicken until the vegetables are softened and cooked through
    • add everything from the black pepper to the vinegar
    • mix up everything and turn off heat
    • wash the lettuce leaves and dry them in a salad spinner
    • on a large plate/platter, place the lettuce all over with the edges facing up (so each lettuce is like a cup)
    • place a spoonful of the chicken filling into each lettuce cup and serve!
